Bayern's History on Their Side for Madrid Turnaround

All UEFA Champions League match information including stats

By Sam Sheringham BBC Sport

Real Madrid sailed into their first Champions League final since 2002 with an astonishingly comfortable 4-0 victory over German champions Bayern Munich on Tuesday night. The Spanish giants, who last won the competition in 2002, put in a dominant performance at the Allianz Arena to secure a 5-0 aggregate win and reach their 14th European Cup final.

Bayern had been hoping to reach their fourth final in five years, but they were outclassed by a Real Madrid side that was in devastating form. The visitors took the lead through Karim Benzema in the 19th minute, and they never looked back from that point on. Sergio Ramos added a second in the 20th minute, before Cristiano Ronaldo scored twice in the second half to put the game beyond doubt.

The victory was a remarkable achievement for Real Madrid, who had been written off by many before the match. Bayern had won the first leg 2-1, but Real Madrid turned the tie on its head with a stunning performance in Munich.

The result means that Real Madrid will face either Juventus or Monaco in the final in Cardiff on June 3. It will be the Spanish club's first Champions League final since 2014, when they beat Atletico Madrid to win their 10th European Cup.
