Colombia Vs Uruguay 2024

10-Man Colombia Upsets Uruguay to Advance to Copa America Final

Resilient Colombia Withstands Uruguay's Onslaught

After a hard-fought first half, Uruguay came out in the second half looking to assert their dominance. They controlled possession, recording 254 passes to Colombia's 92 and taking seven shots to Colombia's four. However, it was Colombia who struck first, as James Rodríguez provided his sixth assist of the tournament to set up the winning goal.

Rodríguez Assists Winning Goal

In a moment of brilliance, Rodríguez found himself in open space on the left wing and delivered a pinpoint cross to the far post. Luis Díaz, who had been a constant threat throughout the match, timed his run perfectly and headed the ball into the back of the net. This gave Colombia a 1-0 lead and ultimately secured their place in the final.

Despite going down a man after Stefan Medina was sent off in the 77th minute, Colombia held on with resilience and determination. Uruguay continued to press for an equalizer, but the Colombian defense stood firm. This victory not only secures Colombia's spot in the final but also marks the first time they have defeated Uruguay in a competitive match since 1993.
